Tube Sound V80 full balanced line amplifier
Tube Sound V80 full balanced line amplifier
Virgil from the micro-company Tube Sound Laboratories had finished, at the end of 2013, his latest line amplifier : V80.
This custom made preamplifier has few changes compared to the V20 MkII series (regarding the line amplifier):
– it uses a solid state zero crossing relay for switching from stand-by to function status, thus making the power ON operation click/pop-less
– 6 professional Sowter balanced transformers are used for the entire preamplifier: two for the Moving Coil phono inputs, two for the balanced line inputs and two for the balanced line outputs
– thin film Vishay resistors are used at the input valve stage of the phono section, in order to improve the signal to noise ratio
– two toroid power supply transformers are used, one for the stand-by circuit and one to feed the line amplifier
– Mundorf siver/gold in oil capacitors are used in the signal path,
Mundorf M-lytic Audio Grade HV filtering capacitor in the high voltage power supply; discrete fast recovery diodes are used for the high voltage bridge rectifier
Here we post few pictures showing the different angles of the Tube Sound V80 preamplifier.
Here we could see the Tube Sound line amplifier making justice as the heart of the stereo/AV system owned by Dan.
Dan’s stereo system consists in :
– Genelec 1038A Three-Way Active Speakers supported by custom made Audio Alchemy sand filled speaker stands, sitting on Viablue spikes.
– TubeSound V80 full valve line amplifier – with MC phono stage included
-Naim DAC I – D/A converter with 2x BB PCM1704 UK
– Naim UnitiServe Hard Disk Player/Music Server
– Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution record player, with Van den Hull ‘The Frog’ medium output MC cartridge
– DIY balanced solid silver interconnect cables made from Neotec UPOCC 5N (single crystal >99,999% ) bulk cable
– solid wooden audio stands made by HiFi Racks
